We visited a PLOM family from Barcelona.
They are 4 little people sharing house and life, sensations and passions, laughter and… More laughter! Alina Topala and Marc Canillo are the mommy and daddy, respectively, of Júlia (5 years old) and Gerard (4 years old).
Alina and Marc are professionally dedicated to gastronomy.
Marc’s activity is focused on the distribution of gourmet products.
She is a recipe developer and catering designer.
From her personal blog, greenmama.es, Alina shares simple and healthy flexitarian recipes, prepared with eco and/or local seasonal ingredients.
She has also created a healthy breakfast brand.
Art and its Superpowers
PLOM: Do you believe in the Superpowers of Art? ALINA: We believe that art beautifies and sensitizes the world. PLOM: Do you believe that Art inspires, educates, forms, helps, improves and makes your children grow? ALINA: Children and adults need Art in whatever form it takes: a painting, a photo, a sculpture, a well-prepared dish… The Superpowers of Art, at an early age, help children develop creativity and imagination, and also their more sensitive side, enhancing intellectual capacities.
PLOM: Do your children draw, paint, make collages, photographs?
What do they like the most? ALINA: Yes!
Especially Júlia.
She likes drawing very much.
And she is also very interested in photography.
She always wants to take my good camera and shoot pictures.
Júlia’s drawings focus a lot on portraying our family, the house… And hearts and butterflies!
Gerard is a bit more passive.
He enjoys playing with toys and especially with Playmobils.
Sometimes he draws something and colors, but it doesn’t attract his attention as much.

PLOM: Who are more artists?
Mom and Dad?
Or the kids? ALINA: Surely, the children.
They get to freely express their emotions and their experiences.
All children are artists!
They are creating art all day long, be it with play dough, painting, drawing… Who doesn’t have a drawing of their children on their walls as if it were the most expensive drawing in the world?
They are our most valuable works!

Artists large and small
PLOM: How important was art in your education (question for adults)? ALINA: I remember, as a child, looking at the paintings, analyzing every detail.
I imagined stories.
I wondered if the events portrayed in the paintings had really happened, and sometimes I tried to copy them.
I did the same with magazine covers or cartoons: I liked to reproduce them in my own way.
Art has probably influenced me to always look for aesthetics in everything I do.
I look for aesthetics in my photographs, in the decoration of my dishes and also in my catering.

PLOM: How important is art in the education of your children? ALINA: At school they give a lot of importance to art and each semester they work with an artist.
They tell them their story, paint pictures in their style and try to understand in a fun way what they mean.
For my part, at home, I always try to take the children to exhibitions.
I like that museums have an educational part for the little ones, so that they can get closer to art.
I see them very interested in the subject and curious to know more.
It is impressive because, being so young, they already know how to analyze a painting with their own words.
It is more difficult for us older children to focus and understand various aspects of a painting if there is no previous background in the subject.

Plom Gallery in your home
PLOM: Do you have Plom Gallery works at home? ALINA: Yes.
We have 2 cats from Miju Lee, who are hilarious.
An illustration by Pablo Salvaje, wonderful, which is titled “Migration”. Another one by The Catman, entitled “Dog”. And from Ibie we have “Cosmic Egg”, which was a gift for me from my husband, for my birthday.
And from Pintachán, Blanca Gómez, Susie Hammer… The works have been chosen for the sensations they transmit.
They are cheerful, with very light colors, which transmit calm and happiness.
And some of them have been chosen by the kids.
Probably because of the colors or the animals portrayed.

PLOM: Where have you placed them? ALINA: I have two in the living room.
I also have them in the playroom, in the sleeping room and also in the bathroom.
You can tell I like Plom, huh? PLOM: Which one do you like best? ALINA: Ibie’ s and The Catman.
PLOM: Which one inspires you the most?
Does it make you dream?
Do you imagine stories? ALINA: Pablo Salvaje’s .

PLOM: What do you think of PLOM Gallery? I’ve been a big fan of PLOM Gallery since the beginning.
I love the project!
Marta has developed a new concept, an art gallery for kids (and not only for kids), believing in the superpowers of art and sharing it with the world.
Sometimes, when you think about art without knowledge, you feel uncomfortable to enter an art gallery.
Marta has been able to turn it around, educating the kids from a young age and, in turn, the parents.
Thank you! PLOM: Thanks to you and your super family.
