In this exclusive text for PLOM Gallery, writer and journalist <\/em>Pedro Calleja<\/strong> stresses how important it is for a child to discover for himself the value of an original work of art, such as <\/em>Smurfette, by Cristina Borobia, <\/strong>on sale in our SHOP.<\/span><\/a><\/strong> I wasn’t aware of it then, but the first works of art I owned were the drawings my father used to make for me back in 1965-66.
\nHe would copy them from the covers of Le Journal de Mickey<\/em> magazine .<\/em> They were meticulous copies of the printed originals, impeccably inked and colored and reproduced on gray cardboard.
\nI still have them.
\nTo me, they are original works of art: they tell me more about my father than about the Disney cartoonists he copied. <\/p>\n

Original art by an original person<\/h2>\n

Original works of art always have something of the author who draws or paints or engraves or silkscreens them.
\nSomething physical, even if it cannot be smelled or touched or tasted or seen or heard.
\nWhen a child realizes that a picture has been painted by someone real, who has a name and a face and exists, it is as if discovering another world. <\/p>\n

When you realize that some things are more valuable than others because someone has done them in a certain way, everything around you takes on a new meaning.
\nIt is a discovery that makes you grow, that makes you mature, that makes you reflect and that often ignites unsuspected creative engines. Pedro Calleja is a journalist and advertising creative.
\nHis son, Pedro Calleja Puebla, is the owner of one of the 100 copies of the limited series <\/em>The holy devil,<\/a> by Sergio Mora,<\/strong> for sale at Plom Gallery. <\/em> <\/p>\n
