Dutch born in Amsterdam and based in Barcelona since a couple of years ago.
\nPainter, illustrator, draftswoman and graphic designer trained at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. Mirthe Bluss\u00e9<\/strong> <\/a>is a world-renowned artist who has exhibited her work in Amsterdam, Barcelona, New York, Tokyo and Bologna. Introduce us to the exhibition <\/strong>“Summer”<\/a> that we will see at PLOM Gallery.<\/strong> This exhibition is about my favorite season of the year: summer.
\nIt is inspired by countless sunsets, the Mediterranean Sea and endless walks on the beach in search of shells and other treasures.
\nIt is an ode to the beautiful and wild Costa Brava, which I love to explore and enjoy with my friends. This expo is all about my favorite season: summer.

When did you start drawing and painting?
\nDid anyone encourage you? <\/strong> I started drawing and painting very early.
\nMy mother always encouraged me to be creative.
\nWhen I was a child, she provided me with all kinds of materials to create and experiment, and hung my work on the walls. I started drawing and painting on a very early age.

Who introduced you to the world of art?<\/strong> My parents are both art lovers, so I grew up surrounded by all kinds of art, from the most traditional to the most modern.
\nCulturally, they were very active: they used to take us to art exhibitions and museums.
\nThey did it almost every weekend and we all found it a lot of fun.
\nAlso, we were lucky to have great artists as neighbors and friends.
\nThey would invite me to their homes and studios.
\nI remember being fascinated and intrigued by their creative worlds.
\nOne of these artists was a woman, Hansje Haan, who has always inspired me. My parents are both art lovers, so I naturally grew up surrounded by all sorts of art, from very traditional to very modern.
\nThey were very active culturally, so they brought us along to many art exhibitions and museums – almost every weekend as it felt like fun.
\nAlso, we were very fortunate to have some great artists as our neighbors and friends.
\nThey welcomed me into their homes and studios and I remember being amazed and intrigued by their creative worlds.
\nOne of them, female artist Hansje Haan, has inspired me forever. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Do you believe in the Superpowers of Art?
\nWhen did you discover that art transforms the world and people? <\/strong> I’ve always had a lot of imagination.
\nFor me, everything you can imagine is real.
\nIn that sense, the works of Marcel Broodthaers inspired me a lot while I was studying at the academy.
\nI’m not sure that art can transform the world, but I do believe that art can bring well-being, relief, inspiration and even ideas.
\nThat’s also what I love most about my profession: the way people respond and relate to my art. I have always had a lot of fantasy… For me everything that you can imagine is real.
\nIn that sense, the works of Marcel Broodthaers inspired me a lot during art academy.
\nCan art transform the world?
\nI am not sure….
\nBut I do believe that art can give you great comfort, relief, inspiration and even insights from time to time.
\nThis is also what I like so much about my profession: the way people respond and relate to my art. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

When and how do you like to paint or draw?<\/strong> My studio is my playground.
\nEvery day, when I wake up, I am happy just to go there to create.
\nI work with music: it helps me concentrate on the atmosphere I want to create.
\nAlthough sometimes just the silence and the sounds of the street provide me with the perfect background, especially in the morning.
\nI love to surround myself with creative friends to take a break from time to time, as I work in a very disciplined way – a bit like a monk – and it’s great to get some fresh air and new inspiration. My studio is my playground.
\nEvery day when I wake up, I am happy to go there and create.
\nI work with music on: it helps me to concentrate on the atmosphere I want to create.
\nBut sometimes just the silence and street sounds are the perfect background, especially in the morning.

What scares you more: the opinion of an influential critic or that of an 8-year-old?<\/strong> For me, all opinions are of interest.
\nThey can give me interesting insights into my own work, but also into the person talking to me.
\nIt also helps me relate to my art.
\nIn general, I love the honesty and – often – lucid reactions of children.
\nThey serve as eye-openers. For me, all opinions are interesting.
