Un mural que llena de vida

The neighborhood of La Mina in Barcelona has had a very special mural since January, not only because it is the first large-format mural to be incorporated into its landscape, but also because of the artists who designed, painted and drew it in a big way.

The artificers have been Zosen and Mina, internationally known for having left their artistic mark on streets around the world with their marked colorful style, and for daring to paint high walls suspended on cranes. But that’s not all, this pair of artists, who have worked together on countless occasions since they started doing it in 2011, have had the wonderful collaboration of children and young neighbors to create the amazing result, a mural that represents the neighborhood, its members and their dreams about the future of the place.

Beginning to prepare the canvas that will be filled with dreams and color…

Un poco de historia

The project was born in the summer of 2018, when Zosen and Mina started doing workshops with some entities that work with young people in the neighborhood to bring them closer to their mural art and to propose them to create one together with everyone’s ideas, working with the collective character of painting.

This is how this work was born…

In the first workshop, held at the Associació Casal infantil de la Mina , the children were asked to paint their dreams and ideas about the Mina of the future they imagined. The result denoted a constant in their ideals and desires, which repeated concepts such as coexistence, respect between the different cultures that make up the residents of the neighborhood, as well as their visibility in society, nature, friendship and family, love and peace, culture. Thus was born A Mine of Colora project to give color and life to this area of the city, “forgotten or stigmatized” according to Zosen and Mina.

…or hands! Just look at the happy faces of this group of helpers!

In autumn, the workshops continued in entities such as Salesians de Sant Jordi and El Casal dels Infants, with the participation of young people of different nationalities and cultures, neighbors of La Mina and Besós, demonstrating the multicultural richness of the neighborhood and its surroundings.

El proceso creativo…¿Dónde se encuentra? Entre la calle Levante y la calle estrellas

Zosen and Mina advised the kids who expressed their ideas by drawing and painting them on paper, and based on these valuable interpretations began to design the proposal for the final mural sketch. A mural located on the dividing wall of a block of apartments between Levante Street and Estrellas Street, in front of the municipal sports center and the Gypsy Cultural Center. A mural that could be seen from various points such as the Ronda Litoral, the suburban train or at street level by the astonished passers-by. And how could they not marvel at the final result?

¿Cómo no iba a maravillarse el público frente al colorido producto nacido de las mentes y corazones de los representantes más jóvenes del barrio?

Everything they dreamed of is now captured to remind them of the essence of the place where they have grown and are growing up. A message that Zosen and Mina understood and illustrated to perfection.

Conociendo a los artistas

He is of Argentinean origin and started doing his first graffiti and murals in Sant Adrià del Besós, the place where he grew up; she is of Japanese origin and, since her arrival in Barcelona in 2009, she was always struck by the fact that there was a neighborhood named after her. They were two perfect artists to demonstrate the effect of working together beyond any worldly differences of sex, culture or origin. Just as perfect and just as artistic as the young people who inspired them and helped them paint the lower part of this mural. This mural, which, made of dreams, immortalizes the soul of this neighborhood full of music and life, the Galaxy that is La Mina.
