Today we inaugurate a new exhibition in Plom Gallery, entitled: “The boy whose neck hurt from looking at the sky”, a title a little long perhaps, but this exhibition is accompanied, or is actually a succession of images that come out of a story also written by the artist.
They are paintings of small and medium format that he has created especially for the public of Plom Gallery, our favorite public!
This child is the protagonist, look at his neck …. Screenshot 2016-04-01 at 12.24.55

Here is the story: Once upon a time there was a boy who spent all day looking at the sky.
Watching the clouds, he found his friends Siesasi and Noasi, and also a band of masked oriental masqueraders playing a lot of Prince covers.
To the rhythm of the winds and drums, the stars guided him on new and magical adventures.
As the boy gazed at the sky, he wanted to reach it with a flying carpet and fly across it without time passing, but….
But be careful! because in the end his neck hurt a lot and the truth is that there was no color in the sky that could not be on earth.
Or so the child imagined…“BECAUSE TO IMAGINE IS TRUE”. In the story there are more characters, like the cat, and the fantastic band that plays a lot of versions of Prince. P1080993

Anuar is an artist who works and lives between Tangier and Barcelona, and has exhibited in galleries in Barcelona, Casablanca, Tangier, Paris and Marrakech. In his works he explores identity, orientalism, the individual, colonialism, extremism, consumer society. The images are treated with a strong sarcasm and irony, through an apparent childish language he digs into memories, icons, absurd and recognizable situations in the popular subconscious.  This is his official biography, but we have another, also in the form of a story, much more stimulating, so you can tell it to the little ones: “Anuar Khalifi was born in a coastal village.
His first experience with painting was when his mother, while working, gave him white sheets of paper and crayons to paint.
From that moment on it became his favorite toy and pastime because it led him to imagine and create his own adventures with his imaginary friends made of paper.

Now Anuar lives on a mountain called “Khalifornia” where he reaches the sky with his height; every day he plays with the clouds, something you can see in his hair, full of white spots …..
and many times he comes down to the city to tell us about his adventures with his friends”.
